SUMMARY:Inside Breaking Bad
DESCRIPTION:Join BREAKING BAD actors RJ Mitte (Walter White Jr.) and Charles Baker (Skinny Pete) and writers\, directors and designers from the seminal show as they take you behind the scenes of the break-through series that put New Mexico’s entertainment industry on the map. \nMulti-faceted actor\, producer and model\, RJ Mitte is best known for his powerful performance as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. in “Breaking Bad. Mitte played the pivotal role of the disabled teenage son of a high school science teacher turned drug dealer\, played by Bryan Cranston. \nAt the age of three\, Louisiana native Mitte was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy\, much like his character on “Breaking Bad.” Although Mitte has a mild case of the same condition\, he had to do what all actors do: research the character and even relearn many of the challenges he had endured as a child in order to convey a more pronounced version of CP. \nCP has never deterred his drive to succeed in television and film. Mitte has appeared on Showtime’s “Weeds\,” NBC’s “Vegas\,” and CW’s “Everybody Hates Chris.” Following his “Breaking Bad” success\, RJ was thrust into the global spotlight as the celebrity face and model of GAP International’s 2014 campaign. Mitte has walked in Men’s Fashion Week in Milan\, Berlin and New York City. \nMitte transitioned into film as he starred in his first non-handicapped leading role alongside country music superstar\, Faith Hill\, in DIXIELAND in 2015. He continued to play leading roles in films like WHO’S DRIVING DOUG\, in 2016\, and\, most recently in the sci-fi\, action thriller THE RECALL alongside Wesley Snipes. Mitte also aims to produce several of his own film projects. \nMitte has been an inspiration to his peers around the world by championing for those with Cerebral Palsy in hopes of removing the stigma associated with disabilities. In order to bring awareness to his own issues with bullying and prejudice\, Mitte has engaged in public speaking and serves as the official Ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Hospitals for Children. He is the celebrity face for the #CutTheBull campaign launched October 2014 in support of children with disabilities. \nBorn in Washington\, DC and raised in Hawaii\, Charles Baker has lived a life most people write books about. The son of an army colonel\, Charles traveled the world by the time he was 17. He’s lived in England\, Israel\, and all over the US. Charles had a vocal scholarship at Tarrant County Junior College and then attended the University of Texas at Arlington. Originally a music major (he is a pianist)\, Charles took up theatre as a means to improve his singing career. Shortly thereafter\, the acting bug took over. Charles began his professional career on stage\, working at some of the best theatres in Dallas/Fort Worth – Circle Theatre\, Stage West\, and The Hip Pocket Theatre. He played “Skinny Pete” in Breaking Bad from 2008 to 2013. He has also had recurring roles on The Blacklist. Also noteworthy is that Charles worked in Adolescent Psychiatry as a “Recreational Therapist” – teaching basic theatre/improvisation skills for over 6 years. \nAdditional Breaking Bad crew members will also participate.

SUMMARY:Diversity & Inclusion in Entertainment
DESCRIPTION:Five accomplished women and one Latino male\, representing multiple areas in the entertainment industry\, will present a panel examining “Diversity and Inclusion in Entertainment” They will discuss the challenges and opportunities in entertainment for women\, minorities and others outside the mainstream of Hollywood. \nCybill Shepherd’s credits include actress\, model\, writer\, producer\, and author during her career of over 4 decades. The plaque was inscribed with the motto\, “equal opportunity and human dignity\,” followed by “Thank you Cybill Shepherd for helping break the chain of oppression.” \nPam Grier\, nominated for a Golden Globe and an NAACP Image Award for her performance in Jackie Brown\, was the first black woman to appear on the cover of MS. Magazine and was named as one of Ebony Magazine’s “100 Most Fascinating Women of the 20th Century”. SUMMARY:Poster Release Party 2018
DESCRIPTION:The official commemorative poster for the 2018 Las Cruces International Film Festival (LCIFF)\, created this year by artist and photographer Mike Groves\, will be revealed at a party on Friday\, January 26 from 6 to 8 pm at Cutter Gallery\, 2640 El Paseo Rd\, Las Cruces. \nThe public is invited to attend and admission to the event is $25 which includes refreshments\, a signed copy of the poster\, and the opportunity to purchase VIP tickets to the Film Festival at a reduced price at the poster party. \nThe poster’s creator\, artist Mike Groves is best known for his awe-inspiring landscapes of the Organ Mountains\, White Sands\, and the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge\, his favorite haunts. A native New Mexican\, Groves has lived in Las Cruces since 1953. In high school\, he became interested in photography and took his first sunset photos. Although he never had formal training in photography\, he had a good eye for it. He studied and experimented while in college and after. His interest was outdoor and scenic images although he won ribbons for his portrait and still life images as well as landscapes. As his skills developed so did his love of the local scenery\, especially the Organ Mountains. He is particularly proud of his triptychs and panoramic images. He feels these better show off the expanse of the Mountains\, White Sands\, and other landscapes. His love of the area and its natural beauty is evident in his work. \nAccording to the Film Festival’s Executive Director Ross Marks\, “We are delighted to continue the tradition of LCIFF Commemorative Posters extraordinarily designed by local artists.” \nPoster Party tickets and information are available at Visit Las Cruces\, 211 Water St.\, by clicking “Get Tickets”\, or call (575) 646-6149.
