Las Cruces International Film Festival to Reveal 2020 Commemorative Poster

The 2020 Las Cruces International Film Festival will introduce this year’s Commemorative Poster at their annual Poster Reveal Party on Friday, January 31 from 6-9 pm at the Museum of Nature and Science, 411 Main Street in downtown Las Cruces. Attendees will be treated to refreshments, a signed copy of the poster, and the opportunity to purchase Film Festival VIP Tickets at a discounted price.

This year’s poster is designed by Las Cruces artist Luis Navarro whose extensive portfolio has been exhibited throughout the United States and Germany.

Luis spent the first seven years of his life in the rainforests of El Salvador and his interests in nature, conservation and sustainability were developed early on.  He feels we need to nurture our planet and allow it to take its natural course.  Luis was also taken by the abundance of color against the earth tone backdrop. His art uses complementary colors to bring out the elements of his paintings and contrasts.

Luis’s interest in art goes as far back as he can remember as he became conscious of images, pictures in books, and everything around him.  He ultimately graduated from the Los Angeles Art Academy where he honed his talent by learning the science and fundamentals of art. The Academy’s founder, Mark Westermoe, who passed away in 2018 served as Luis’s mentor through the years.

Luis moved to Las Cruces 19 years ago and is inspired by the myriad of cultures and creative people here in Southern New Mexico —as well as his love of our green chile.

Luis describes himself as a simple person with complex interests. His favorite art form is his pencil drawings, yet loves to travel and immerse in different cultures, their foods, their art and architecture, especially old world cathedrals in Barcelona and France.  All these meld to create his inspiration.

His favorite work is a painting of his son he did as a graduation present.  Every element of the painting has special significance to his son.

In creating this year’s Film Festival Commemorative poster Luis is using mixed media and various techniques to communicate his vision of the Film Festival.  It is inspired by the myriad of creative people in Las Cruces. His work can be seen on Instagram @navarrofineart and on Facebook like page Luis Navarro Airbrush Studio.

Admission to the Poster Reveal Party is $25. Cash only tickets can also be purchased at the Rio Grande Theatre and Visit Las Cruces.
